London conference aims to increase British role in rebuilding Iraq
A KRG delegation and representatives of the Iraqi and British premiers and are participating in a two-day Iraqi reconstruction conference in London.

"The aim is to increase Britain's role in the rebuilding process of Iraq after ISIS and the beginning of a new phase," Nawzad Hadi, the governor of Erbil, told Rudaw. "We, as the Kurdistan Region, do not miss opportunities presented to us in terms investment and reconstruction.”

The aim of the event is for the British government to facilitate a role in the process of rebuilding Iraq after ISIS, reported Rudaw’s correspondent Kurdistan Hassan from London.

The KRG delegation will hold a roundtable with British businessmen and businesswomen.

"In a panel we will explain the investment role and the KRG's development in recent years and mechanisms of developing opportunities available in the fields of agriculture, investment and other industries, and how could they be utilized to reconstruct other Iraqi cities like Mosul,” said Hadi.

Hadi said they will encourage British firms to invest in the Kurdistan Region.

A representative for British PM Theresa May will also participate in the conference.

According to Rudaw's Hassan, 130 figures from Iraq are present at the conference.

Baghdad has estimated it needs $80-100 billion in assistance to rebuild the war-damaged areas. It received about one-third of that amount in donations, investments, loans, and pledges at a conference in Kuwait in February.

The British military has continued to support, advise, and assist Peshmerga through the ISIS conflict.

The KRG’s Department of Foreign Relations has a representation office in London, and the United Kingdom has consulate general in Erbil.
